What is a “Good Faith Estimate” and why does it matter to me?

A “Good Faith Estimate” is a part of The No Surprises Act which went into effect in January 2022 and gives patients the right to understand costs for services and receive a “Good Faith Estimate” from their provider. Costs for services will be covered fully in your initial session where you will receive a Good Faith Estimate for our work together. You are also entitled to an estimate in writing at any time. If you would like a Good Faith Estimate, please ask me and I will provide you with one.

The No Surprises Act states the following:

  • Health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency services, including psychotherapy.
  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. Be sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
  • If you receive a bill that is greater than or equal to $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call the Colorado Division of Insurance at 303-894-7490 or 1-800-930-3745.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?
Let me know by telephone or email 24 hours ahead of the session time. Cancellations without a 24-hour notice will result in being charged the full fee for the session.
Is there anyone with whom you won’t work?
I won’t work with anyone who I feel would be better served by another professional. When this is the case, I provide several names of qualified professionals as a referral.
What is your educational and professional background?
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I received my master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Georgia in 2003. Following graduate school, I participated in extensive Structural Family Therapy training while living and working in Philadelphia. I also have training in EMDR therapy.
